Title: By the Book

Author: Jasmine Guillory

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Rating: 4/5

Spice level: 1/5 (closed door)

Tropes:

  • Forced proximity

  • Celebrity romance

Plot: Izzy is going to get that book from celebrity Beau Towers, whether he likes it or not. In the spur of the moment, as an editorial assistant Izzy is assigned to physically go to Beau's house and ask him where his long-overdue manuscript is. When she ends up staying to help him get words on paper and find the story he wants to tell, she learns more about Beau and his sad history and realizes she doesn't mind the man behind the fame as much as she thought she would.

My thoughts: I thoroughly enjoyed this book, my favorite by Jasmine Guillory so far. The characters were fun, the plot was new and engaging, and I loved seeing these two characters interact. Also, the way Izzy can put up boundaries and put her career first is beautiful. I can't think of anything I did not like about this book, it's just not a 5-star read.

I will say it is seemingly marketed as a Beauty and the Beast retelling which I do not agree with. I did not get any hint of Beauty and the Beast from this book at all.
